About me

Although The Nimrod Stone is my first published novel, I've always been a writer at heart. I wrote my first book at the age of fifteen, it was a children's book called 'Arthur's Holiday' and told the tale of an ordinary ant that went on an extraordinary journey. It was part of my English coursework and my teacher accused me of copying the story from a book! Since that day, I've always felt there was at least one book inside me, but it never seemed to be the right time and life took over.

Since then, I've trained as a car mechanic, run my own cleaning business, trained as an IT professional, worked as a programmer, analyst and self-employed network engineer. Along the way, I got married, raised five children and moved house more times than I can remember. All the while, this burning desire to write was growing inside, fuelled by my passion for reading adventure, fantasy and sci-fi novels. About fifteen years ago, I started to write again. Inspiration comes from unexpected sources, The Nimrod Stone had its beginning in a children's game, 'What's the Time Mr Wolf?'. I wrote the first chapter, but life decided that it was time to distract me again. A demanding job and busy schedule left me no time or head space to write.

Ten years ago, I was forced to retire after I injured my spine. The fire inside me began to grow, my wife gently blew on those embers and, eventually, I got stuck into writing The Nimrod Stone. It's been a wonderful journey, from rewriting the first chapter to completing the 100,000 or so words. If only I could open a portal to the early 1980's and drop a copy of The Nimrod Stone in my bedroom to show that teenage me what he could achieve!

If you've read The Nimrod Stone, I'd love your feedback! I'll take onboard whatever you say and feed that into my next project, 'Rods'.
